The Bible, God's breathed out Word, says that 'as cold waters to a thirsty soul so is good news from a far country', (Proverbs 25:25). The Christian Gospel has its source in God and centres in His Son Jesus Christ.

Christ can meet your deepest spiritual need. In fact each one of us has a deep need. It arises from the fact that we have a Creator who uniquely designed us even from our mother's womb, (Ps. 139 :13). Yet in verse 5 of Psalm 51 King David says that he 'was shapen in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me'. Something is seriously wrong with the human race. It is called sin, and sin is fundamentally rebellion against God. The God of the Bible is not only our Creator and the creator of the entire universe. He is a holy, infinite and personal God before whom we are all accountable. Every human being has the law of God imbedded in his heart, and through the operation of conscience has a sense of right and wrong. Each of us is also aware of God, even from the mighty creation around us, and there is a deep sense within us that death is not the end. The Bible clearly states that after death each one of us must spend eternity either consciously in heaven or consciously in hell. It all went wrong when our common ancestors called Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden and rebelled against God. Therefore, all of us are sinners by nature and by practice and can only expect to be condemned by God except for this:

'For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotton Son that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life'.

                                                                      (John 3:16)

You will observe that of these 25 words, 12 are about God and 12 about you. The centre of the verse is the word 'Son'. We want to isolate 4 words for special mention, 'God', 'world','Son', and 'whosoever', First of all the word 'God'. We have already explained that all of us have a sense of God. The most important thing to grasp is that God, who created us, also loves us despite our sin and guilt. He has moved towards us. In our sin we are inclined to move away from Him. The good news from the 'far country' of heaven is that God loves this sinful world of 6 billion human beings to such an extent that He has sent His one and only Son, Himself God, to take into His person real humanity, yet without a spot of sin. God gave Him to the taunts and jeers of the leaders of Israel, to the mockery and humiliation before Pilate, and ultimately to the unsurpassed agonies of the cross. On that cross alone and forsaken, the sinless Son of God took the full judgment due to each one of us in hell forever, so that by simple faith in the now resurrected Christ 'whoever believes' should not perish but have, (beginning in this life) the very life of God which the verse terms 'everlasting life'. This is the best news a spiritually thirsty human being can ever hear. If you are reading this today and have never turned from your sin in repentance, be assured that God loves you and you can have this eternal life by simply receiving the living Christ by faith as your Lord and Saviour now.
